Hammer Toe Surgery and Gastrocnemius Recession

Hammer Toe Surgery and Gastrocnemius Recession in Wichita, KS

$7,742

A hammer toe is a condition in which a muscle imbalance causes one or more toes to be continuously bent at the middle joint. Hammer toes often cause pain and swelling, and may make it more difficult to walk. For particularly stiff hammer toes, your doctor may recommend Hammer Toe Surgery. During this procedure, your doctor will correct your hammer toe(s) by removing or shaving down excess bone, releasing or transferring tendons, or inserting a small pin to immobilize the joint, allowing it to fuse in a flat position.

In this combined procedure, the doctor will also perform a gastrocnemius recession to surgically lengthen the calf muscle and attached tendons at the back of the leg. This relaxes the calf and allows the leg to be positioned more naturally with the heel on the ground. Gastrocnemius recession surgery is commonly used to treat a chronically tight calf, achilles pain, and/or plantar fasciitis.
