A partial mastectomy, also called a lumpectomy, is a surgical procedure to remove cancer or other abnormal tissue from the breast. During the surgery, the surgeon leaves as much normal breast tissue as possible, removing the breast cancer and some benign tissue around it. Node dissection includes the removal of nearby lymph nodes, which are cut open and examined to determine if they are cancerous.
