A spinal cord stimulator implant is a surgical procedure that involves the placement of a device that sends low levels of electricity directly into the spinal cord to relieve pain. During the procedure, a generator is placed underneath the skin with sterile electrodes. Spinal cord stimulators allow patients to send electrical impulses using a remote control when they feel pain. Patients selected for SCS have had chronic debilitating pain for more than 3 months in the lower back, leg (sciatica), or arm, and conservative therapies have failed.
