Tonsils and adenoids removal, also known as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, and ear tubes, also known as BMT, is a three-part surgical procedure. The tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are performed to remove infected tonsils and adenoids. The tonsillectomy involves the removal of the two small masses of tissue located at the back of the throat. A tonsillectomy may be recommended if a patient has reoccurring throat infections, swollen neck glands or drainage from the tonsils. The adenoidectomy involves the removal of the adenoids, which are small masses of tissue located behind the nose. The ear tubes surgery involves draining the fluid from the middle ear and placing temporary tubes in the eardrum. A BMT may be recommended if a patient battles reoccurring ear infections.
Physician order required. Please do not order until "ENT Office Visit - Ear Nose Throat and Neck" with chosen doctor has been completed.
