Fusion of Big Toe Joint Surgery

Hallux rigidus correction - arthrodesis, is the most common surgical procedure for advanced hallux rigidus. Hallux rigidus is a condition that causes pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint of the big toe (where the bones in the toe connect to the bones in the foot), and is often caused by arthritis. During the procedure, the doctor will immobilize the joint by removing damaged cartilage and then fusing the two bones together with plates and screws (arthrodesis).
