A core buildup, also known as a crown, is a restorative dental procedure that involves adding material to the tooth in order to create a more structured base for a crown to be placed. The filling is usually prepared in the mouth using tooth-colored composites. In certain cases where the missing tooth structure is extensive, as in the case of a deep cavity or a root canal treatment, the dentist may also need to use threaded pins or posts to help retain the composite filling.
