A laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) is a surgical procedure to remove both ovaries and fallopian tubes. During the procedure, the doctor makes an incision in the belly button to insert a long, thin tube with a small camera (laparoscope). Using the camera, the doctor can guide surgical tools to remove both ovaries and fallopian tubes. This procedure is performed for women who have certain types of breast cancer, ovarian masses or cysts, and for women at high risk of developing ovarian or breast cancer..
