Shoulder Fusion in Kansas

Shoulder fusion, also known as shoulder arthrodesis, is a surgical procedure sometimes recommended to patients with chronic shoulder problems. During the procedure, the humeral head (the top of the humerus bone in the arm) is fused to the glenoid socket of the shoulder, eliminating the joint. Cartilage between these two bones is removed, then the joint is stabilized with plates or screws to allow the humeral head and glenoid socket to heal together into a single bone. This is typically done to eliminate painful motion through these joints and stabilize the shoulder.
